Characterization of Continuum Gas Flow in a High-Pressure Micro-Reactor Assembly
Understanding catalytic processes at the atomic scale under realistic conditions is a key challenge in surface science. In particular, the study of single-atom catalysis at near-ambient pressures requires specialized experimental setups, such as high-pressure micro-reactor cells integrated into ultra-high vacuum (UHV) systems. This thesis develops an analytical framework to describe gas flow behavior within such a micro-reactor, focusing on the continuum flow regime. Critical state variables and flow velocities at relevant locations are estimated to provide a reliable macroscopic flow description. Effects such as leakage and outlet flow remain to be quantified in detail; doing so should incorporate advanced numerical simulations and experimental validation to improve the model's accuracy and applicability. The presented approach lays the groundwork for future microscopic flow studies.

Entwicklung eines emissionsfreien Sportmotorrades
Topic. Development of an emission-free sports motorcycle.
Objective. The goal was a fully electrified motorcycle. The original internal combustion engine was to be replaced by an electric motor and a control unit. The two-wheeler was also to carry its own battery system with a charger built for it specifically. Communication between the systems and the rider was to run through a central control unit.
Realization. A 2001 Ducati Monster S4 served as the chassis, fitted with a purpose-built frame. The motorcycle was driven by a brushless synchronous machine, supplied by a BMS-controlled 50.4 V lithium-ion battery pack. Torque reached the road through a chain drive with a ratio of about 1:9. The peripherals were controlled by a Raspberry Pi and buttons on the handlebar. The Raspberry Pi also ran the user interface, shown and operated on an 11.6-inch touch panel.
Results. At the time of submission, the motorcycle was still under development. The frame was in its final stages of production. The motor and its software were ready for use and would only have to be installed. The power supply was fully designed and only needed to be manufactured. The user interface was at prototype stage, still carrying experimental functions that were not yet working.
